When I was young, I was taught to dream of success. Of a life much better than the one my mom had to endure. She told me to dream of becoming a doctor. I could take care of her and all of our family. I could drive her around in a nice car with air conditioning to avoid Saigon’s scorching heat. As a doctor, nobody would treat me the way they treated her.
